UP IAS officer Rinkoo Singh Rahee says not being given work, sends his resignation to President
LUCKNOW: Rinkoo Singh Rahee, a 2023 batch IAS officer, currently posted with the Board of Revenue in Lucknow, has tendered his resignation to the President of India, asking to be sent back to his previous service of PCS, as he has not been given any work for the past eight months.
In his letter, Rahee has outlined his service experience since 2009, when he was first a PCS officer and then from 2023, when he joined the UP cadre as an IAS officer. In the past eight months since his attachment with the Board of Revenue, Rahee said that he has not been given any work because of which he had earlier refused to accept his salary.
He says that after a discussion with senior officials, he was assured that he would be given more responsibilities, after which he consented to take his salary but since then, there has been no movement in his case, forcing him to take this step.
"In the current situation, being merely attached for a long period without any clear work responsibility appears highly unusual and raises serious apprehensions regarding future professional and administrative implications. Furthermore, being deprived of field experience at this initial and very crucial stage of service directly hinders professional development. In fact, such a situation is rarely seen as an exception, and probably no other Joint Magistrate would have had such an experience," he said in his letter.
As PCS officer under the BSP Government in 2009, Rahee was posted in the Department of Social Welfare where he highlighted corruption in some schemes. He alleged that the then principal secretary of the department had threatened that he would be killed and his body thrown in sugarcane fields
Later, while he was playing badminton with his friends, some unknown assailants shot at him seven times, with two bullets hitting his face and giving him permanent disability. When no action was taken in this case, Rahee says "I started a hunger strike, but instead of initiating the expected investigation, an attempt was made to declare me mentally unwell, and I was sent to a mental hospital".
In July 2025, he was posted to Shahjahanpur as joint magistrate, soon after which a video of him doing squats before protesting lawyers surfaced. Rahee says he did that as self-inflicted punishment for the poor state of toilets. Within six days, he was attached to the Board of Revenue.
