NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday questioned the Uttar Pradesh government for lodging one after another FIRs against Samajwadi Party leader Azam

Khan

and sought response from it on the plea of the politician alleging that he was being harassed and cases were being filed to keep him in custody "What is this? He has been jail since two years. One or two cases is okay but it cannot be in 89 cases. Whenever he gets bail, he is again sent to jail in some other matter...This chain will continue and prior to his release a fresh FIR would be filed," a bench of Justices L Nageswara Rao,

and A S Bopanna said.

'Wrong impression created by Khan'
Additional solicitor general S V Raju, however, contended that a wrong impression has been created before the court by Khan and he will dispel the impression.

He said the allegation against the politician is serious and there is substance in allegation. The court thereafter asked the state to file reply and posted the case to May 17.

Khan was facing probe in 88 cases and granted bail in 87 cases last year and also got bail in the last case a day before by the

High Court

on May 10. But few days back a fresh cases was lodged against him and he may not be able to come out of jail despite getting bail in 88 cases.
