A portrait of 2 best friends: A parting gift from Kalpana

Ludhiana: Jasneet Kaur couldn’t control her tears following the tragic death of her classmate and best friend Kalpana Narayan (16) in the gas leak incident in Giaspura on Sunday.On Jasneet’s birthday on December 24, Kalpana had made a portrait of two best friends taking swings and gifted it to Jasneet.Besides Kalpana who was a student of Class X in Sacred Heart Convent School, Sahnewal, her whole family — two brothers Abhay (13) of Class VIII and Aryan (10) of Class IV (studying in the same school) and parents Kavilash (40) and Varsha (35) — perished in this tragedy.Recalling her bond with Kalpana, Jasneet said, “From benchmates from Class IX to best friends in Class X, Kalpana and I had shared so many memories. She always remained happy in class and used to crack jokes. I can’t believe that she is no more.”Jasneet said, “Kalpana pictured us in a frame and gifted me that handmade sketch on my birthday. When I see that sketch, I miss her even more. I am not in a position to attend the school right now. We used to do most of the class activities together.” Jasneet’s father Jaspal Singh said, “Jasneet has been wailing since yesterday and is upset after seeing the token of love given by Kalpana.” Kalpana’s another friend Anchal had plans to prepare a sumptuous dish for her for lunch in school for Monday. Anchal and Kalpana shared their tiffin during recess. She had told Kalpana that she will cook something special for her and will bring it on Monday.
