City police alert residents about gang of women cons

LUDHIANA: A gang in the hinterland is making full use of the element of surprise. The gang comprises well-dressed women, wearing make-up and on the lookout for victims to dupe and loot in villages. After a few cases were reported in Ferozepur district, police in other districts have been alerted.

Ludhiana police issued a letter (a copy of which is with TOI) to all station house officers (SHOs), asking them to inform residents under their jurisdiction about this gang of women. They have also been asked to immediately take action if any complaint is received against the gang.

A few days back, a video went viral from Ferozepur area showing residents of a local village catching a group of well dressed women asking a man for money. The women stood in front of the car to make the driver stop. When he did, they asked for his help saying that they were needy. However, the village resident called a few other people and media persons.

The villagers suspected that the women were part of an organised gang. In the video of the incident, the women said that two members of their group were standing in other places.

Taking note of this, director general of police- community affairs Gurpreet Kaur Deo wrote to police in all districts, asking them to make people aware of the gang.

Ludhiana ADCP- HQ Rupinder Kaur Bhatti also wrote to SHOs about the gang of women, who are from Gujarat. The gang also includes minor girls. In some cases, the women are seen carrying toddlers.

The SHOs have been directed to alert residents. They have also been asked to inform senior officials if any such incident is reported under their jurisdiction, besides taking immediate action on receiving a complaint.

Woman ‘elopes’ 20 days after wedding

Just 20 days after her marriage, a woman allegedly eloped with her boyfriend. Division number 7 police lodged an FIR on Sunday on the complaint of Kuljeet Singh, 25, a resident of Kishor Nagar Tajpur road.

Kuljeet said that he got married to Sonia, 25, of Gaushala Road, Khanna on May 28. On June 17, he said she left the house without telling anyone. He and his family searched for her but to no avail and he informed Sonia’s parents. Later on, he said he came to know that Sonia would talk to a man named Honey, who is also a resident of Gaushala Road of Khanna.

Kuljeet alleged that Honey has kept Sonia in his custody. ASI Jaspal Singh, investigating officer, said that police have lodged an FIR under sections 346 (wrongful confinement in secret) of the IPC. It is suspected that the woman went on her own volition but it will be confirmed after she is traced.
