City’s LED street lights shine bright

Ludhiana: To ensure proper functioning of LED street lights in the city, the municipal corporation (MC) carried out inspections in all four zones and found that approximately 99% of them were functional.
The authorities claimed that around 1.05 lakh LED street lights were installed in the city, replacing the conventional ones, and around 99% of them were functional.
Tata company’s staff has been directed to repair the 1.28% of the streetlights found defunct at the earliest.
The MC officials stated that all the LED street lights are also being monitored online through supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) monitoring system.
They said replacement of conventional street lights with LED ones has also helped save energy. Around 24,22,509 kwh energy saving has been witnessed so far this month, and over 9,63,57,642 kwh energy has been saved since March 2020. The officials said the carbon emissions had also reduced due to replacement of the conventional with LED street lights.The residents can submit complaints regarding the street lights on the toll free number— 1800121484848.
MC commissioner-cum-Ludhiana Smart City Limited chief executive officer Shena Aggarwal said that the project had been taken up under the Smart City mission at Rs 13.39 crore. The LSCL was honoured with the ‘energy efficient solution of the year award’ for its implementation of the Smart LED Street Lights project at the eighth National Digital Transformation Conclave and Awards held in Guwahati on December 9, 2022.
