Flower show promotes maintenance of ecological balance
Ludhiana: Lines from Guru Granth Sahib ‘Pavan guru paani pita, maata dhart mahat’ (Air is our teacher, Water our father, and the Earth our mother ) was the message given to the visitors who attended the flower-show-cum-photography competition held at gurdwara, Sarabha Nagar, on Sunday.

One of the participants, Maninder Singh from Dugri, said, “The best part of the event is that it is held on weekends. I feel that waste such as bottles and tins instead of being thrown can be recycled and used to grow plants.”
50 people participated in photography competition under various themes like ‘colour and contrasts and ‘love with nature’.
Talking about the increasing trend of giving plants as gifts, Bhawna Poddar from Home Cloud said, “Plants with attractive presentation are selling like hot cakes. These can survive very easily for more than six months with the least maintenance.”
With almost 300 cacti and 400 bonsai at his place, Gurmukh Singh, technical superintendent at GNDE College, said, “Looking after cacti and bonsai is definitely difficult.”
Jatinder Singh Sandhu, one of the organising members of the flower show, said, “Gurdwara conducts three events annually which includes flower show, tree plantation, world environment day and cycle rally.”
Gurdwara is also providing free landscaping consultancy.

which started in the year 2011 with just 100 pots now witness entries over 1,600 pots of 35 varieties of flowers, 50 types of foliage plants, grafted and non-grafted cactus, bonsai, succulents and medicinal plants. 25 educational institution and 15 individual entries participated in the event.One of the participants, Maninder Singh from Dugri, said, “The best part of the event is that it is held on weekends.
