Ludhiana: An Australian-based NRI has become a viral sensation after fending off a group of highway robbers with a sword near Dehlon on Friday night.
Harjind Kaur, who returned to her native village of Ramgarh just 15 days ago, was driving her mother-in-law and aunt home when suspects targeted the car using the notorious "egg-on-the-windshield" trick. Instead of stopping or using the wipers — which would have blurred her vision and forced her to exit the vehicle — she confronted the bikers head-on.
A ‘Smashing' Defence
The attempted heist began near Dehlon when a trailing motorcycle threw eggs at Kaur's windshield. Drawing on quick thinking and safety training often shared in NRI circles, she refused to engage her wipers, which would have smeared the yolk and blinded her. "I decided to fight back instead of panicking," Harjind Kaur said. "I took out the sword we keep in the car and confronted the miscreants. By the time more vehicles appeared, they had escaped."
Caught on Camera
While Kaur's mother-in-law pleaded with her to stay inside, her aunt filmed the encounter from the backseat. The footage, now circulating widely online, shows Harjind Kaur running toward the suspects with her sword drawn, causing them to flee.
The Dehlon Police have since apprehended two suspects. Inspector Avneet Kaur, SHO, confirmed that the department plans to officially honour Harjind Kaur for her bravery. She has a message for Ludhiana's highwaymen: If you're going to throw eggs, you better be ready to get sliced.
