LUDHIANA: Punjab health minister Dr Balbir Singh on Saturday said that the department has suspended three officials posted at the local Civil Hospital for negligence during treatment of an accident victim.

Condemning the entire incident during his visit at civil hospital, the minister claimed that zero-tolerance would be adopted against any kind of negligence on the part of health officials during treatment of patients and stern action would be taken against those found guilty.

Reiterating commitment to providing top class healthcare services across all government institutions, Dr Singh said that the Punjab government has been laying "special emphasis" on secondary healthcare establishments including district hospitals, sub divisional hospitals, and community health centers.

He further mentioned that Ludhiana Civil Hospital would "soon" have a new Intensive Care Unit with life support system as part of this drive to boost healthcare infrastructure at district hospitals, adding that the government was all set to fill as many as 1800 vacant posts to tackle manpower shortage at government hospitals. These posts include doctors, nurses, and other paramedic staff so that patients get best of the services at government hospitals, he added.
