Ludhiana deputy commissioner urges shop owners to give free masks with purchase of sweets/rakhis on Raksha Bandhan

LUDHIANA: Deputy commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma on Wednesday urged the owners of sweet shops and other shops in Ludhiana to provide free masks to customers on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.

Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh had recently announced that the sweet shops will be allowed to remain open on August 2, a day before the Raksha Bandhan festival, despite the Sunday lockdown in the state.

During the meeting, the DC urged the union members to give two masks free of cost with the purchase of sweets in order to promote and popularise the use of masks. Similarly, the owners of other shops selling Rakhi’s would also give two free masks on purchase of Rakhis.

Sharma urged the shopkeepers to ensure that free masks are distributed along with the sweets and rakhi’s in the interest of society and hoped that these directions would be strictly complied with.

The meeting was attended by ADC (D) Sandeep Kumar, district health officer Dr Rajesh Garg, Sweet Shop Owners Association president Narinder Singh, besides others.
