Ludhiana: After seeing the increasing response among public towards online payment of property tax, the civic officials are now planning to take some more steps for encouraging the public towards online payments even more. The officials claimed that in the financial year that ended MC received 30 percent tax returns through online mode as over 70000 returns came online but they want to touch at least 1 lakh mark. For this, they are planning to create public awareness.
From April 1, 2021 till March 31, the MC received 2.69 lakh returns, of which 77,623 returns were filed online and 1.90 lakh returns came through suvidha centres while 1,685 returns came through offline mode. However, the officials claimed if people will pay online they will not only save time but fuel as well. Moreover, they need not to stand in queues.
They claimed that they have decided to upload certain videos online to guide people on paying their tax without any problem online. Since the beginning of new financial year, tax payers were also sent messages urging them to opt for online means.
Also, they are planning to start tax payments at
sewa kendras
so that people could pay there instead of going to MC zonal offices. For example, people who live in
Giaspura
area have to reach zone C office at Gill Road for tax payment, wasting a lot of time and energy. The officials claimed that they will provide property tax, water supply and sewerage dues at sewa kendras if they got the permission. There are more sewa kendras than MC zonal offices. They will impart training to the staff at sewa kendras to collect the tax like staff of MC suvidha centres is doing. The officials claimed that at sewa kendras a nominal fee can be decided, which will be charged for tax collection.

said, “The response to online mode is increasing so we want more people should opt for the same. Therefore, for this new financial year we have thought some steps that will be taken in the next few months.” He said they request people to go for online mode and save time.
