Out to deliver food, man gets raw deal
Ludhiana: Sticking to company guidelines proved dear to a 23-year-old employee of a food delivery company as he was badly thrashed by six men for refusing to hand over the order as per wishes of the customer.
Vishal Kumar was attacked on National Highway 44 in Dhandari Kalan on Saturday afternoon, leaving him with injuries on his eye and face.
The entire incident was captured by a CCTV camera installed near the spot. The camera captured two of the three accused assaulting Vishal and later thrashed him with his helmet.
Getting to know about the incident, other employees of food delivery firm reached the site and called police helpline 100. By the cops reached, the accused had fled. Vishal said he had received a request for food delivery in Dhandari Kalan from a customer named Paramveer Singh. At 3.30pm, when he reached the location as provided by the customer, the latter asked him to come further ahead to deliver the order.
“As per the rules of our company, we can deliver food only at the location shown in the mobile application. I asked the customer to come to the location, but he started abusing me. And minutes later, three men reached there in a car. Two of the accused started abusing and thrashing me. When I fought back, the third accused also joined them. They also snatched my helmet and started hitting me with it on my face repeatedly, due to which my right eye got injured,” said Vishal.
Thereafter, he called his co-workers, who reached the spot in a few minutes. Vishal also alleged that three more accomplices of the accused reached there and thrashed him. Meanwhile, Vishal’s co-workers called ‘100’ repetitively to seek cops’ help.
ASI Balbir Singh, in-charge, Kanganwal police post, said the police were recording the Vishal’s statement to lodge an FIR. Besides Paramveer, another accused was identified as Manjeet Singh. Vishal claimed that Paramveer was the relative of a councillor.
