Sacked driver, aides abduct another driver; flee with truck

Ludhiana: A truck driver, who was sacked by a transporter about one year ago, allegedly snatched his truck, which was laden with 40 tonnes of iron. The accused overpowered the truck driver with the help of his aides and abducted him. Later, the accused dumped the driver on the road and drove away with the truck.Sahnewal police lodged an FIR against the accused, Gurwinder Singh alias Gogi, a resident of Prem Nagar, Mullanpur, on the complaint of transporter Rajiv Ghai, a resident of Arya Mohalla. Ghai said Gurwinder worked at his transport company as a driver, but was sacked about one year ago. On Thursday, one of his drivers, Jugraj Singh, was asked to deliver a consignment of 40 tonnes of iron. While transporting the consignment, Jugraj stopped near Jugiana to have dinner.The complainant said while Jugraj Singh was having dinner inside the truck, Gurwinder barged in with three of his aides. Then they thrashed and abducted him. Ghai added that the accused dropped Jugraj at an isolated place on the Ludhiana-Chandigarh highway and escaped with the truck as well as the iron consignment. Thereafter, Jugraj called him and he lodged a police complaint.Inspector Jagdev Singh Dhaliwal, SHO, Sahnewal police station, said the police lodged an FIR against Gurwinder Singh and his unidentified accomplices on the basis of the statements recorded by the transporter and his driver. Although Gurwinder had been sacked, Ghai claimed that he did not have a dispute with him. Further investigation is on.
