Schoolboy applies for leave, killed in accident

Ludhiana: Returning home after applying for 2-day sick leave at his school, a 13-year-old boy was crushed to death by a truck at Kailash road on Wednesday morning. The victim, Shivam Kumar, was riding a cycle. The tipper driver fled leaving the vehicle at the spot.
Shivam, a resident of Gehlewal village, had been sick for the past few days. On Wednesday, he had gone to the school to apply for two-day leave. A sand-laden truck hit his cycle. As Shivam fell down on the road, the vehicle crushed him to death.
A CCTV camera installed near the spot captured the tipper driver fleeing while leaving his vehicle at the spot.
On getting the information, Jodhewal police reached the spot and shifted the body to the civil hospital.
Kamaldeep, Shivam’s class in-charge, said, “The boy visited the school in the morning and submitted his sick leave application. He also asked his friends to share the homework with him.”
His Hindi teacher said, “I learned from students that Shivam has met with an accident. I rushed to the spot, but he had died by then. Shivam was a very disciplined student.” Head constable Jaswinder Singh said the kin of Shivam had reached a compromise with the tipper driver. On the statements of Shivam’s father Vikash Kumar, the police have proceeded with Section 174 of CrPC.
