Schoolkids, youths take part in marathon
Ludhiana: City-based NGO ‘Save Tree and Save Earth’ recently organized a marathon in Shaheed Bhagat Singh area of the city to create awareness about keeping the environment clean and green.
Key member of the group, Baljeet Kaur, said, “Though there are many NGOs in the city that are involved in tree plantation initiatives, but only a handful of them are actually looking after the planted trees.”
The NGO’s project co-ordinator Hemant Kumar said Ludhiana is engulfed in a host of environmental issues, so it is the responsibility of the residents to come forward and take the lead in starting such environment-friendly plans.
Other members including Jyoti Bala, Amit Kumar, Kulwinder Singh and Sharanpreet Kaur acknowledged the role of the other volunteers, especially school children and college goers, who came forward to help them in planting saplings in the area.
The group, which was formed only a few months ago, is actively participating in tree plantation activities and other environment-friendly projects in the city.
