Denied share of mom’s property, transsexual, 34, petitions police
Madurai: A 34-year-old transsexual from Madurai petitioned district superintendent of police N Manivannan urging police to take action against her father and brother, who she claims threatened her with dire consequences when she approached them to claim a share from her deceased mother’s
Oorvasi alias Anburaja, a native of Ayyanarkulam in Usilampatti taluk, said that she was driven out of her house by her father and brother after her mother, Rajathi, died in 2004. She managed to complete her school education with the help of non-governmental organisations. She is now staying in HMS Colony in Theni Main Road.
According to the complainant the properties belonging to her mother is being managed by her father A Gandhi, 64, and elder brother G Raveendran, 40 of which They have also leased out some of the properties. Since she was finding it difficult to make her both ends meet, she approached her father and brother on December 9 seeking her share. She was not only denied of the share, but the duo also threatened her with repercussions if she approached them again.
She urged the district police to make intervention in the issue and help her get a share of the property. She expressed her inability to visit the local police station for inquiry due to the threat from her family members and requested the police to conduct inquiries in the city itself. Transgender activist Priya Babu accompanied Oorvasi when she handed over the petition.
