Plea seeks authorities to secure temple properties

Madurai: A public interest litigation (PIL) was filed before the Madurai bench of the Madras high court to direct the concerned authorities to identify and secure the properties of Balasubramania Swamy temple at Pavithram village in Karur district and Peramanar temple in Thanjavur district.

The petitioner, A Radhakrishnan from Chennai who claimed to be an ardent devotee of the temples stated in his petition that as far as the temple in Karur is concerned, it has several properties and there has been no income from them and the authorities have not taken any action to identify the properties and secure them.

The petitioner claimed that he has been approaching the Hindu religious and charitable endowment (HR &CE) department authorities since 2013 about the issue and no action has been taken so far.

Justice Bhavani Subbaroyan admitted the petition and adjourned the hearing to a further date.
