Sivakasi deaths: Woman wanted to poison brother, but ended up killing three more
Virudhunagar: Police arrested a woman on Monday in connection with the deaths of four people at Sivakasi in Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu on Sunday. Initially, police thought the men had consumed poison-mixed liquor and died. However, investigations revealed that they had died after eating a poison-laced chicken gravy which the elder sister of one of them had prepared to kill her brother. However, the plan to kill her brother went awry, as his friends too consumed the food.
Police identified the accused as D Valli, 33, sister of Murugan, 27. Valli parted ways with her husband and was residing in her parents’ home. She was working in a printing press.
Valli developed an extra-marital relationship with her employer, Selvam. Police sources said Murugan wanted her sister to break the relationship. But she refused to do so.
Murugan, who was a drug addict, tried to sexually misbehave with Valli. Enraged over this, she hatched a plan to eliminate her brother.
Police said Valli prepared a chicken gravy on Sunday and laced it with pesticide. She went a temple near Sattur with her mother. When they returned home around noon, they found Murugan in an unconscious state. He was rushed to hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Murugan had distributed the chicken gravy to his friends, who took part in a booze party in Sirukulam tank on Sunday morning. A Gautham, 16, Mohammed Ibrahim, 22, and M Ganesh, 20, too died after consuming the chicken gravy. Six others who consumed the food were admitted to hospital and are responding to treatment.
The Sivakasi town police who had registered a case under CRPC- 174 (suspicious death), changed the section to IPC 302 (punishment for murder).
Meanwhile, a couple of Tasmac shops, which were locked by the officials, suspecting issues with the liquor, were thrown open on Monday. The villagers who thought that it was adulterated liquor which had claimed the four lives, had staged a protest on Sunday, but withdrew their protest after coming to know of the poisoning.
Virudhunagar district superintendent of police M Rajarajan said that it was a challenging case for them. However, they managed to crack it in few hours with the help of a few clues
