Tamil Nadu Class XII state board exams: Madurai, Trichy students find language paper easy
MADURAI:
Teachers said though there were initial concerns over the performance of the candidates due to the change in the exam pattern – post the total marks of 1,200 was reduced to 600 marks – the students in fact felt that the newer pattern was easier. No candidate was caught for malpractice.
In Madurai district, a total of 33,095 candidates attended the examination. As many as 1,979 candidates were absent.
Most of the students from the private schools in the city -- who wrote Tamil paper -- said that the questions were more on the expected lines.
“Students who had especially prepared with the help of previous year question papers, it would have been easy. Passing the paper wouldn’t be a problem for many,” M Rajeshwari, a student in Dolphin Matriculation Higher Secondary School, told TOI.
But according to teachers, the Tamil paper was comparatively challenging for some students in government and government-aided schools as the questions in one mark and two mark sections were “twisted”.
“Passing the paper wouldn’t be an issue, but scoring full marks would be difficult because many students found one mark and two mark questions to be very hard,” Tamil teacher from Velliveethiyar Corporation Girl’s Higher Secondary School R Vasumathi Rani said.
Students who opted for other language papers like French, Hindi and Sanskrit also found their question papers easy.
Over 32,000 students appeared for Tamil language paper in 116 centres in Trichy district.
“It was a balanced paper which would ensure that even an average student can get pass marks with equal weightage given to questions related to literature and grammar,” said a Tamil teacher.
Besides this, possibility of candidates scoring high marks is also ruled out as some of the questions were tricky, said the teacher.
N Kasthuri, a student from seva sangam higher secondary school in Trichy, said that she was expecting a tough question paper but found it to be moderate. “Some questions were difficult which cannot be answered unless you have read the lesson thoroughly,” she said.
