Police

arrested three men in connection with the murder of a

Sri Lankan refugee

and destroying the body by burning it in a crematorium in

Kanyakumari

district of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday night. The arrested included a Sri Lankan refugee.

The murdered man has been identified as Rasee, 34, a resident of Sri Lankan refugee camp at Samugarangapuram near Valliyoor in Tirunelveli district. Rasee’s fully burnt body was found in a crematorium at Kariyamanickapuram on Thursday.

Police, who had been clueless about the identity deceased, got information from a man in the Sri Lankan refugee camp at Samugarangapuram that a fellow inmate named Rasee had been missing from Wednesday. Rasee owned a studio at Valliyoor. Police were also told that Rasee had been seen leaving the place with studio assistant Kaydheeswaran, 25.

On Thursday night, the Kottar police picked up Kaydheeswaran for questioning. Kaydheeswaran was a resident of the Sri Lankan refugee camp at Perumalpuram in Kanyakumari district.

He admitted to murdering Rasee with the help of his accomplices Palani alias Kannan, 25, of Suchindram and Faizal, 26, of Paramarthilingapuram.

Kaydheeswaran wanted to get rid of Rasee as the latter was in love with his elder sister. Rasee was married and divorced.

On Wednesday, Kaydheeswaran and the two other accomplices invited Rasee for a drink and picked him up in a car. They consumed alcohol in the vehicle.

An argument broke out between Kaydheeswaran and Rasee over the love affair. As the argument turned into a scuffle, the accused broke a liquor bottle and stabbed Rasee on his neck and back.

When Rasee died, they took the body to the crematorium at Kariyamanickapuram. They doused the body with petrol, which they retrieved from the car, burnt it and fled the place.

The trio were booked under sections 302 (punishment for murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence or giving false information to screen offender) of the Indian Penal Code.
