Congress names candidates for Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttar Kannada districts

MANGALURU: All India Congress Committee (AICC) has finalized candidates for all the seats in coastal districts of

Dakshina Kannada

, Udupi and Uttar Kannada districts on Sunday.

All Congress candidates, who contested in the 2013 Assembly Election, were given tickets this term too. While all the seven MLAs from Dakshina Kannada district have been given tickets, the party has decided to field Dr B Raghu, who had lost with narrow margin in 2013, in Sullia again. MLA Shakunthala T Shetty is the Congress candidate from Puttur constituency. Minister for forest, environment and ecology B Ramanath Rai will be the candidate from Bantwal constituency and minister for food, civil supplies and consumer affairs U T Khader will be contesting from Mangaluru. While MLA J R Lobo is the Congress candidate from Mangaluru City South constituency, another MLA B A Mohiuddin Bava will contest from Mangaluru City North constituency.

Though there were confusions regarding Moodbidri, MLA K Abhayachandra Jain will be contesting from the constituency. Meanwhile, K Vasantha Bangera is the party candidate from Belthangady Constituency.

In Udupi, H Gopal Bhandary is the Congress candidate from Karkal constituency and Vinay Kumar Sorake from Kapu. Minister Pramod Madhwaraj will be contesting from Udupi constituency while K Gopala Poojary is the candidate from Byndoor. INTUC leader Rakesh Malli is the Congress candidate from Kundapura constituency.

In Uttar Kannada, Arbail Hebbar Shivaram is the Congress candidate from Yellapur constituency while Bhimanna Naik is the candidate from Sirsi. While Mankal Subba Vaidya is the party candidate from Bhatkal constituency, Sharada Mohan Shetty will contest from Kumta. Satish Krishna Sail is the candidate from Karwar constituency and minister R V Deshpande will contest from Haliyal constituency.
