Karnataka: Town panchayat president leads by example, clears litter

president driving the vehicle used to collect waste in the panchayat limits, has become talk of the town, after his picture became viral.

, president, Sullia town panchayat, along with a team of volunteers, decided to clear the litter from the streets after a public function was held on Monday night.

, as well as the adjacent maidan. Once waste was collected, since the

had already left for the day and the panchayat president felt that it was not right to leave the garbage at the spot till the next day, he decided to drive the vehicle with the waste for disposal.

Vinayakumar Kandadka told TOI that there is nothing unique about what he did. “Since the programme went on till late in the evening, and the pourakarmikas were not available, we decided to take up the cleaning ourselves. We could not allow the waste to remain at the spot till the next day. We even removed the flags that were put up as part of the felicitation programme," he added.
