Mangaluru fishermen booked for kidnapping Kerala cops

MANGALURU: The

Coastal Security Police

(CSP) of Kasaragod have booked 12 fishermen from Mangaluru for kidnapping two

coastal security policemen

on Monday. Sub inspector

KV Rajeev Kumar

told TOI, the incident was reported when policemen from Kasaragod CSP police were patrolling and intercepted a fishing boat from Mangaluru near Manjeshwar.


“The officers asked the fishermen on board to produce documents. When they failed to produce the necessary documents, the police seized the boat and deputed two constables Shibu and Sudeesh to the seized fishing boat. While the CSP patrol vessel moved towards

, the fishing boat was following the CSP vessel. However, after sometime we noticed that the boat was missing only to realise that the boat was returning towards Mangaluru,” he said.

The officer said that Mangaluru CSP was contacted and a team rushed to Mangaluru. With the help of Mangaluru police, the constables were rescued. A case for kidnapping, obstructing a public servant from discharge of his duty and using abusive words against officials has been registered against 12 fishermen.

The accused have been identified and will soon be arrested, the officer from Kerala said.
