One arrested in ganja seizure

Mangaluru: The police on Sunday arrested a man and seized 545 grams of ganja worth Rs 17,000 at Handevu Moorumarga in Belthangady taluk. The arrested is Prasad alias Pacchu,31, from Savanoor village in Kadaba. The cops also recovered a two-wheeler which he used to transport ganja. A case has been registered at the Venur police station.Bridge tournament inauguratedThe two-day national-level Indian Oil Mangaluru Open Swiss Pairs Tournament, hosted by Karavali Bridge Association, Mangaluru under the aegis of Karnataka State Bridge Association, kickstarted on Sunday. The event is held after a long gap of 20 years in the coastal city. Vijay Desai, former faculty at NITK, Surathkal and one of the organisers of the event said that there is no age limit for participants. “This time, we have 88 boards set up for the event. About 80 pairs from the southern states will be participating in the tournament. The winners will be given cash prizes,” said Desai. The event was inaugurated by Rajan MP, retired I-T commissioner.
