VHP to take legal action against CM for remarks against Pejawar seer
Udupi: VHP Karnataka Dakshina Prantha president Prof MB Puranik voiced strong objections to the criticism against Pejawar Mutt pontiff Sri Vishwaprasanna Tirtha Swamiji. He declared that VHP would initiate legal proceedings against chief minister Siddaramaiah for making unfounded statements about the religious leader.Puranik explained that the seer already addressed the misreporting of his statements about the Indian Constitution by the media, denying any suggestions about constitutional modifications. He noted that on Nov 23, approximately 50 saints, including Pejawar Swamiji, participated in a gathering at Vasavi Vidyaniketan auditorium in Bengaluru's VV Puram. According to Puranik, the newspapers distorted the swamiji's statements, potentially threatening social harmony. The seer actually discussed concerns about farmers' and temples' land being claimed as waqf property. He also highlighted that during a demonstration by the Bhim Army Ekta Mission Karnataka in Vijayapura, its founder president Mateen Kumar, district president Santhosh Takke, along with Husenappa Chalavadi, Dalit leader Parashuram, and others used inappropriate language and made offensive remarks against the Pejawar seer. The organisation submitted complaints to Karnataka DGP and Udupi SP, requesting strict action against those who defamed the swamiji. The offensive remarks distressed numerous devotees of Udupi Sri Krishna Mutt and the Pejawar seer's followers, while also hurting Hindu religious sentiments. The VHP firmly condemned these remarks and demanded appropriate legal action against those insulting the swamiji and mutt. The announcement was made in the presence of VHP Karnataka Dakshina Prantha secretary Jagannath Shastry, joint secretary Sharan Pumpwell, and leaders Premanand Shetty and Basavaraj.
