MEERUT: Police chiefs of seven districts were among 22 IPS officers who were transferred by the Uttar Pradesh government on late Monday night. The police rejig came hours after several parts of western UP, including

The government transferred IGs Agra and Meerut Zones -- Luv Kumar and Ram Kumar. Alok Singh will take over as the IG of Meerut Zone wiA Satish Ganesh will take over as the new IG of Agra Zone.

Meerut SSP Nitin Tiwari and Agra SSP Jogendra Kumar were also among those shifted. While IPS officer Tiwari was sent as commandant at PAC’s 6th battalion in Meerut; Kumar, who was transferred just a fortnight ago from Ayodhya, has now been posted as commandant at 43rd battalion of PAC in Etah district. Both the districts were rocked by violence on Sunday evening and on Monday respectively after which over 1,400 people were booked and 14 arrested.

Ajay Sahni, also known as an “encounter cop”, is the new Meerut SSP. Currently posted in Barabanki, the 200-batch officer has served Aligarh and Azamgarh as district police chief.

Muzaffarnagar SSP Sudheer Kumar Singh has been posted as Ghaziabad SSP while Babloo Kumar, a 2009 batch IPS officer and posted as commandant of 4th Battalion of PAC, will be new Agra SSP.

Kasganj

SP Ashok Kumar, who triggered a row recently by scoffing at chief minister Yogi Adityanath’s order asking official to reach office by 9am, has also been sent packing. He has been posted as commnadant in PAC’s 9th batallion in Moradabad.

SP (cyber-crime) Lucknow, Dhuley Satish Pradhan will be the new SP of Kasganj.

2005-batch IPS officer Upendra Agarwal, who was promoted as DIG and is currently posted as SSP Ghaziabad, will now be DIG Saharanpur range. He has served as SSP Saharanpur last year.

IG Prayagraj, Mohit Agarwal was brought to Kanpur in the same capacity.

While many see it as a damage control move after law and order problem, senior police officials dubbed it to a routine exercise.
