After video goes viral, cops exhume body of woman
ALIGARH: The body of a young woman who said in a video that her family was going to kill her in the name family honour was exhumed on Thursday in the presence of police of three thanas of Hathras along with PAC personnel and district administration officials. Among those present was CMO Ramvir Singh, SDM KP Tomar and CO of Sikandra Rao DK Baliyan.
The body was exhumed after a Naurangabad chowkidar, Sabir, filed a complaint with the police based on the video that went viral on social media. In that video, the 25-year-old woman “confessed” in a train toilet that her family was unhappy with her choice of man she wanted to marry. They were taking her to Sikandra Rao to kill her. She said, “If something happens to me, my family is to be blamed.”
She died on August 19. According to police, an FIR has been filed under IPC’s section 302 (murder) and 201 (Causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender) and 34 (a criminal act is done by several persons) against her father Mohammad Yasin and brother Isaac Nabi, brothers-in-law Akram Pehelwan and Iskeali, and mother Bando on the basis of the video.
The video was checked for its authenticity. The family works in Mumbai as fruit sellers and came to their native town only to kill their daughter, it was alleged. The Hathras police has sent four teams to look for the family members who are absconding. for One team has also been sent to Mumbai also to locate Imran, who has been named in the video as the man she wanted to marry.
Speaking with TOI, Hathras SP Ajay Pal Sharma said, “We received the video in which a woman alleged that her family will kill her because she wants to marry someone named Imran. We verified the contents and based on that, the complaint was registered under relevant sections of the IPC. Now, we also have to testify if the video was shot recently or it is an old one. The family house is locked and no one is at home. We are trying to get details from Mumbai. She was allegedly killed and her family who buried her, telling everyone in the neighbourhood that she died a natural death. The body has been exhumed and sent for post-mortem to ascertain the cause of death.”
