Police said the two bike-borne men adopted the modus operandi of the Khat-Khat gang to dupe Singh.

Giving details, Vinod Kumar, station house office, Railway Road police station, said, “Two bike-borne assailants knocked on the window of Singh’s and said the petrol from their vehicle was leaking. The moment Singh, his son and their domestic help got down to check what the matter was, the two men snatched a bag full of Rs 6 lakh lying in the car and fled.”

Singh, his son and his domestic help had gone to Railway Rod to get their car tyre changed. They were heading towards Meerut’s Begampul market to purchase some items and that is why they were carrying Rs 6 lakh. Singh is a resident of Meerut’s Pallavpuram area.

Virendra Singh, a retired deputy SP, was last posted in Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh.

Kumar said, “A case has been registered against two unknown people under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the matter is being investigated. The accused worked on the lines of the Khat-Khat gang – the members of which knock on car windows to raise a false alarm and run away with one’s possessions. Efforts are being made to arrest the accused.”
