MEERUT: A 13-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped by a 75-year-old sevadar (servitor) of an ashram, gave birth to a baby girl in a hospital on Thursday in Bulandshahr following which irate villagers vandalised a portion of the ashram's boundary wall.
On Oct 25, the sevadar was arrested for sexually assaulting two girls, aged 12 and 13 years, after drugging them repeatedly for eight months. The investigating officer said that the survivor gave birth to a baby girl on Thursday. He added that the ashram has been sealed since the incident came to light. "Some unidentified miscreants damaged portions of the boundary wall but the situation is now under control," he added.
The circle officer of the area concerned said, "Some portions of the ashram's wall were found vandalised and were restored on Monday. An investigation is underway."
The girls were allegedly raped by the septuagenarian when they visited the ashram, which is in their neighbourhood, to play. The issue came to fore when the 13-year-old was found to be five months pregnant. Two separate FIRs were registered against the accused on complaints by the survivors' parents, who work as labourers, and he was subsequently arrested.
