MUZAFFARNAGAR: Police in Shamli on Friday arrested five persons accused of looting and fleeing with a truck from Kairana on February 5. The accused were held after an encounter as they were reportedly planning a heist in Rajasthan.
The five criminals were allegedly involved in several other loot in the Shamli region in the past, police sources said. The looted truck along with country made firearms have been recovered.
The incident took place on Kairana Road. The area police later rushed to the spot and launched a search operation to nab the culprits, but to no avail.
Shamli SP Sukirti Madhav then formed teams to crack the case.
According to sources, the police laid a trap on Friday after a tip-off that the men were travelling to Punjab to sell the truck.
The accused were identified as Alauddin, Babu, Azad, Naushad and Abdul Salam. Naushad had earlier looted a truck in Muzaffarnagar as well and was arrested in the past, police said.
"During interrogation, we came to know that the accused were planning to rob a businessman in Rajasthan. They were supposed to go to Rajasthan after selling the looted truck. Further investigation is on," the Shamli SP said.
