2 MBA students die of 'drug overdose' at Mumbai concert, 5 held
MUMBAI: Two MBA students and three persons associated with organising a music concert at an exhibition ground in Goregaon (East) on April 11 were arrested on Monday after two students who attended the concert died of suspected drug overdose. Police refused to divulge any identities.
The concert had thousands in attendance. The deceased - a male and a female - were in their early 20s and studied at a prestigious management college in south Mumbai. They were attending the concert in a group of 15 students.
Police said the two were suspected to have consumed ecstasy tablets before and during the music show. They started complaining of uneasiness during the concert, following which one of them was taken to a suburban hospital and the other to a hospital in south Mumbai. Both died on April 12.
Police questioned the friends of the two deceased MBA students and found that two of their fellow students had provided them with the ecstasy tablets. The two students were arrested.
Three others connected with organising the music concert, including a senior managerial person from the exhibition ground, were also arrested for not taking precautions, as a result of which drugs were brought inside the venue and consumed.
Police have registered an FIR under various provisions of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Section 105 for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The bodies of the two victims were sent for an autopsy.
