Locals said the Lokhandwala Road near Ascot and Suresh Nagar junction has become unsafe after 9pm owing to sex workers, both male and female, taking over the footpaths. A night bazaar came up in the area over a year ago, and now tea stalls, mobile cigarette and gutkha shops have begun to flourish.

within minutes of the incident, an assistant inspector promised to send a patrol van to the spot. But until Wednesday afternoon, senior inspector Bharat Gaikwad had not been informed of the incident. “Nothing happened there on Tuesday. On Monday, when we raided the area, the transgenders fled ,” he said.
