Church seeks 'divine guidance' to overcome Franco Mulakkal controversy

MUMBAI: The standing

committee

of the Catholic Bishops Conference of India (CBCI), the nodal body of bishops, discussed the ongoing controversy over arrested bishop

at a two-day conclave in Bengaluru on Sept 27-28.


The

Church

held a 'Holy Hour' of prayer and sought "divine guidance" to chart its next course of action since its "strength lays only in the Lord". CBCI says it is "deeply pained by constant attacks by the media implying that it is trying to cover up the case". It did not make a statement since the civil authorities were investigating the matter. The Church is internally examining the matter but it requires "time and discernment".

Yet again, the CBCI has asked Christians to pray for the Church. However, CBCI president Cardinal Gracias is yet to issue a statement, or address specific requests for comment.
