Eight BMC job aspirants lose ₹40L to cheats

Mumbai: The Agripada police on Saturday arrested a 46-year-old man who, along with a woman posing as a BMC employee, allegedly accepted Rs 40 lakh from job aspirants and issued them fake appointment letters for various posts in the civic body.
The arrested accused has been identified as Rakesh Kumar Mishra, a resident of Palghar. Police are looking for his accomplice, Sandhya Mohan Rathod, who claimed to be working in the BMC education department. A complainant who was looking for a job in BMC was introduced to Sandhya by an acquaintance. “Sandhya accepted Rs 7 lakh in different instalments from the complainant,” said an officer.
During inquiries, police learned that the accused had similarly cheated at least eight people and accepted Rs 40 lakh from them. — S Ahmed Ali
