witnesses a spate of marriage ceremonies, hardly any weddings were solemnised this year. The reason was that the planet Venus is ast' or combust.
Akshay Tritiya was celebrated Monday. "Venus is the crucial element in a marriage chart that fosters love between the couple. If its position is not conducive people prefer to advance or postpone their weddings," said Pt Shivlal Tripathi who officiates at the Birla Mandir in New Delhi.
Those who did get married had not focussed attention on the planetary configuration. They simply settled for the auspiciousness that is inherent to Akshay Tritiya. In Thane the TOI photographer chanced upon an interreligious marriage where the happy Hindu-Muslim couple savoured their first nimbupani as Mr and Mrs outside the registrar's office.
At the Maharashtra Yadav Charity Trust hall in Naigaum, five low income couples took their vows at a mass marriage sponsored by the trust. They had not referred to the mahurat either.
