Homemaker kidnaps 2-year-old from CSMT, held
MUMBAI: Over 24 hours after a a Nalasopara homemaker allegedly kidnapped a two-year-old boy from next to his sleeping mother in the waiting room at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in the wee hours of Monday, the railway police arrested her and and reunited the toddler with his family.
The accused, Parvatidevi Vishwakarma (40), was married for two decades, but did not have children. "She would often have fights with her husband over not having a child. On Sunday, after another tiff, she left home in a huff and took a train to CSMT with the intention of kidnapping a child as she knew the place was teeming with families leaving the city," said CSMT railway police senior inspector Hemant Bawdhankar .
After wandering on the station for sometime, she noticed Vimala Satdive (35) and her son Sunny sleeping in the waiting room. Around 12.10am, Vishwakarma picked up the boy and walked away. When Vimala's husband returned and enquired about their son, she realized he was missing. They looked for him everywhere and approached the railway police. On Tuesday, Bawdhankar and his team-sub-inspector Ratikant Bhadrashetye and constables P Sable, S Yadav, K Pawar and R Akade-showed Vishwakarma's photograph to over 600 auto drivers till one of them recognized her. He took the team to Tulinj gaon where he had dropped her. Locals directed the team to Vishwakarma's home. "She had told her neighbours and husband Ramchabilal that she had adopted the boy from an organization," said DCP Purushottam Karad.
