Labourer killed by reversing garbage truck

MUMBAI: A garbage collection truck ran over a 30-year-old labourer near Dadar railway station early on Saturday. The victim was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The Shivaji Park police have arrested the truck driver for causing death due to negligence, rash and negligent driving.

The deceased was identified as Anil Kochare, a resident of Jalgaon, who had come to the city in search of job. The police said the truck had come to collect garbage near the railway station at 1.15 am on Saturday. After collecting the garbage, the driver without checking the rear-view mirror reversed the truck and ran over Kochare. He was rushed to Sion hospital where he died during treatment.

The accused, a Govandi resident, was detained at the spot. He was taken to the police station where his statement was recorded.
