MUMBAI: Less than 24 hours after the home department led by deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis reshuffled 119 DCP and SP level officers, the director general of police's office put on hold nine transfers without assigning any reasons. This is the biggest-ever transfer and posting of officers after Fadnavis took over the reins of the home department.
On November 7, joint secretary (home) Vyankatesh Bhat issued an order for transfer of 110 DCP and SP level officers while nine officers were relieved, but no new assignment was shown to them.
On November 8, additional DG (establishment) Sanjeev Kumar Singhal issued a one-page order, saying postings of Prashant Mohite, Namrata Patil, Sandip Doifode, Deepak Deoraj, Sunil Lokhande, Prakash Gaikwad, Tirupati Kakde, Yogesh Chavan and Sharmila Gharge-Walawalkar have been put on hold. "The controlling officer should relieve all the officers mentioned in home department's order, except these nine officers," Singhal said in his order.
Additional chief secretary (home) Anand Limaye and DGP Rajnish Seth did not respond to TOI texts.
Mohite was DCP, Thane city, and posted as SP, anti-corruption, Thane; Namrata Patil was DCP, Pune and posted in Mumbai as SP, EOW; Force-1 SP Sandip Doifode was posted as DCP, Mira-Bhayander and Vasai-Virar; Deepak Deoraj was SP, state security corporation and posted as SRPF commandant, Pune; Thane DCP (EOW) Sunil Lokhande was posted as DCP, Nagpur city; Palghar additional SP Prakash Gaikwad was posted as DCP, Solapur; Kolhapur additional SP Tirupati Kakde was posted as SP, Force-1, Mumbai; Thane DCP Yogesh Chavan was posted as DCP, Navi Mumbai; Nashik DCP (SID) Sharmila Gharge-Walawalkar was posted as SP (anti-corruption), Nashik.
The home department was in the dark about the order issued by the DGP office. "We are not aware of the order issued by Singhal," a senior home department officer said.
A senior IPS officer took the view that while the order for posting and transfer is issued by the state home department, the movement order is issued by the DGP's office. "I am sure, the order issued by Singhal must have the approval of Devendra Fadnavis," he said.
