Devendra Fadnavis will present the first Arun Bongirwar Memorial Public Services Excellence Award-2019 on Saturday at Y B Chavan Centre. The award has been instituted in memory of former chief secretary Arun Bongirwar. The Bogirwar family, in collaboration with the state-run Yashwantrao Chavan Academy of Development Administration, set up the awards.
The winners were selected by a panel headed by former chief secretary D K Jain, who is now a
Lokpal
member. From the IAS category, the panel selected Abhijit Bangar for innovative application of solar energy to double the cropping intensity for tribal farmers, Ashwini Sonawane for working in
Bhamragad
, IPS officer Abhinav Deshmukh for police networking with citizens to reduce mortality in naxal-infested areas, Jitendra Ramgaonkar for an innovative adventure sport based eco-tourism, and N Vasudevan for use of eco-friendly technology for protection of mangroves.
