Maharashtra to form commission for transgenders' welfare
MUMBAI: The state government is considering to create a commission for the welfare of trans-genders under the state social justice
department. However, minister for social justice Rajkumar Badole was unaware about the development.
Pankaja Munde, the state women and child development department minister while talking to media on Friday said that the state
government is positive for forming a commission or a board which would help to sort out trans-genders issues and work for their welfare.
“Although my department is currently dealing with trans-genders organization and their issues but the department doesn’t have
expertise or the system. The department have handles issue of children upto 6 year old and pregnant-lactating mothers but not boys. On other hand socal justice department have some Ashram schools and some sort of system so instead of women and child development department the social justice department could handle it better. The state is positive to form a commission on the lines of child right commission,” said Pankaja Munde, minister for women and child development department.
When contacted Rajkumar Badole, who handles state social justice department said he is not aware about the development. “No decision has been taken as of now and I am not aware about the subject discussed handling the trans-gender issue by my department. We will consider it only if the decision would be taken in future,” said Badole.
