Mumbai: BMC inaugurates portable vacuum toilet at Girgaon Chowpatty
MUMBAI: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (
"It's a portable mobile toilet mounted on a cargo vehicle. Toilet consists of one unit each for gents and ladies. There is a 90 per cent water saving. This toilet requires only 1.2 liters/flush after every use. 200 liters of water will cater to almost 100 vacuum toilet flushes against 20 flushes for normal toilets," officials said.
"The location of the toilet can be changed as per requirement any time since it's mounted on a self-driven vehicle. The vacuum pump runs with batteries charged with solar panels. It's environment friendly. Two drivers cum operators are available to maintain the vacuum toilet 24X7. Presently it will be on a trial basis and free of cost to use," the official said.
D Ward Committee Chairperson Meenal Patel, local Corporator Anuradha Potdar, Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Zone 1) Vijay Balamwar, Assistant Commissioner (D Ward) Prashant Gaikwad and activist Indrani Malkani were present during the inauguration.
