MUMBAI: A female

dog

suffered partial loss of vision after she was brutally hit on the bead with a heavy paver block by a drunken man, identified as Ganesh Jadhav.

An FIR has now been lodged against Jadhav by an activist of Mumbai Animal Association (MAA) at

Dahisar

police station for animal cruelty.

Saurabh Edwankar of MAA told TOI, "The horrific animal cruelty recently occurred at Veer Sambhaji Nagar at Dahisar (east) where the accused drunkard hit a sleeping dog with a paver block. This crime was also captured on CCTV, and hence the accused man was booked by the police under IPC section 428 and section 11(1) of the

Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act

, 1960.''

He added that the impact of the assault was so severe that the eyeballs of the victim dog bulged out due to it.

"The culprit admitted to the crime and said he will continue such barbaric acts again. Hence, it was necessary to lodge an FIR against him, as such persons are a danger to the society,'' said Edwankar.

The MAA team rushed the traumatized dog to vet for immediate treatment. She is responding well and hopes to see her safe in her area.

The

Pure Animal Lovers

– PAL team reached out to Dahisar police station. A volunteer common to both NGOs, Sai Varghade, along with other animal lovers filed an FIR.

Edwankar also stated, "It's very heartening to see young college students getting involved and filing FIRs for the sake of animal rights protection. We would urge the police commissioner and DCPs to rope in NGOs to guide police station staff in smoothening the process of filing FIRs. Proper sections & criticality of cases is important to bring drastic changes in Animal welfare laws.''
