MUMBAI:

Fingerprints

of a person that matched with a suspect caught last year in a

drug consumption case

helped Kurla railway police trace his family in Mumbai Central.

Mohammed Faizan Ansari (24) met with an accident on December 19, 2019, and his body was found between Kurla-Vidyavihar railway stations. Police were unable to contact his family. When Ansari, who was mentally unstable, left home on December 18, his family thought he would return. On February 6, police checked his fingerprints from the database. "His details matched with a person caught in a narcotics case by Agripada police last year. We cross-checked with his family," said senior inspector M A Inamdar.

After Mumbai railway police commissioner R Sengaonkar instructed police stations to trace families of persons whose bodies were unclaimed, Kurla railway police searched for Ansari's details through missing person complaints in Mumbai and Thane. "The team checked fingerprints, which helped," said Inamdar. On February 7, his brother Mohd Javed claimed his body, lying in at Rajawadi Hospital morgue for almost 50 days.

Javed said he stayed with him and had undergone rehab for drug consumption.
