MUMBAI: The iconic Islam Gymkhana at Marine Lines has cancelled the 'International Halal Show India' scheduled on November 12 and 13 at its premises after some Hindu outfits raised objections. More than 100 businesses dealing in halal products from food to cosmetics were expected to participate in the show.

"We received messages that some organisations were opposing holding of the halal show and we cancelled it in the interest of law and order, peace and harmony. We want to promote peace and, given the times we live in, it is not prudent to allow such a show," said Islam Gymkhan president Yusuf Abrahni.

One of the organisers, requesting anonymity, said that a halal show was successfully held in pre-pandemic times in the city and nobody had opposed it. "There is a misconception about halal products. These are products which are hygienically produced and packaged and facilitate healthy living," he said.
