Metro line 11 extension to Bandra Terminus

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday announced in the state budget that the proposed Metro Line 11 will be extended to Bandra Terminus via Dharavi and Bandra station, a move aimed at strengthening east-west and north-south connectivity across Mumbai.

2/7

Wadala–Gateway underground corridor

The fully underground Metro Line 11 is planned from Wadala to Gateway and is estimated to cost about Rs 23,487 crore. The corridor is currently designed to integrate with Line 4 at Wadala, allowing commuters from the eastern suburbs and Thane to access south Mumbai more easily.

3/7

6.9 km extension with 5 new stations

Officials said the proposed extension will run about 6.9 km beyond the original alignment and include five stations — Chunabhatti, Sion, Central Dharavi, Bandra West and Bandra Terminus — expanding the network’s reach across key city locations.

4/7

Major interchange at Dharavi with Metro line 3

At Dharavi, the new line will connect with the underground station of Line 3, creating a crucial interchange and linking passengers to the city’s north-south metro spine connecting Colaba, BKC and SEEPZ.

5/7

Bandra West interchange with Metro line 2B

At Bandra (West), commuters will be able to interchange with Metro Line 2B, which is expected to significantly improve connectivity between Mumbai’s western suburbs and the eastern corridor.

6/7

Better connectivity to Dharavi, Bandra and rail services

Officials said the extension will strengthen cross-city mobility and improve access to major residential and commercial areas such as Dharavi and Bandra. The link to Bandra Terminus is also expected to enhance connectivity with long-distance rail services and reduce travel time for commuters travelling towards south Mumbai.

7/7

Metro expansion across Maharashtra cities

In his speech, Fadnavis said metro expansion across Maharashtra’s major cities is progressing rapidly. Nearly 490 km of metro lines in Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur have been taken up so far, of which 173 km are already operational. Another 50 km of metro corridors are expected to open in the coming year, while an additional 165 km are targeted for completion by 2029.
