BMC to implement strict rules again

Due to a surge in cases, the BMC officials on Wednesday said that containment measures in residential buildings are going to be tightened further. The civic authority appealed to the members of housing societies to inform the civic body in case any member is found flouting the home quarantine protocols. On the other hand, the civic wards have been asked to file police cases against violators.

The mysterious monolith

In a treat to Bandra residents, a mysterious monolith was spotted at Joggers Park on Wednesday morning. In a tweet put out by local corporator Asif Zakaria, he pointed out that the structure had numbers on the side and asked Mumbaikars to figure out the meaning.

Mumbai reports 1,539 new cases

INS Karanj commissioned

Scorpene-class submarine INS Karanj, third of the Kalvari class submarine, was commissioned into the Indian Navy in Mumbai on Wednesday. INS Karanj can launch marine commandos for special operations behind enemy lines. Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Karambir Singh and Admiral (Retired) VS Shekhawat were present at the ceremony. At present, out of 42 ships and submarines on order, 40 are being constructed in Indian shipyards.

Sachin Vaze to be transferred

A day after the Opposition BJP demanded an arrest of police officer Sachin Vaze, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has informed that he will be removed from the crime branch. Sachin Vaze is facing allegations in the Ambani Suv and Mansukh Hiren death case. Deshmukh made the remark while making a statement after BJP leader Pravin Darekar demanded that the government inform the House about its decision on API Sachin Waze. “Sachin Vaze will be removed from the Crime Branch and shifted in some other department,” Deshmukh said.

Astroturf demolished

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's R central ward demolished an astroturf set up by encroaching a 15,000 sq metre plot at Saibaba Nagar in Borivali. An FIR has also been filed in the case at Borivali police station after a huge drama broke out and at one point the JCB of the civic body was locked inside the turf while civic authorities remained outside. Demolition action could continue again only after police intervention.

Covid-19 testing in Dharavi

For the past few days, Dharavi has been witnessing a surge in Covid-19 cases. Mumbai's largest small scale industrial area reported 11 new coronavirus cases, taking the total number of positive cases in the area to 4177.
