MUMBAI: Madanpura resident Hamna Abdus Salam Ansari from a poor OBC family may lose her MBBS seat as the Caste Validity Committee of Mumbai has not issued her a Caste Verification Certificate.

The HBT Medical College and Dr R N Cooper General Hospital, where Ansari had secured admission to MBBS after she scored an impressive 612/720 marks in the NEET exam this year, has intimated her that her admission could be cancelled if she doesn’t submit it soon. The second round of Centralised Admission Process ended on Friday.

Ansari’s father, Abdus Salam, in his letter to minister for Medical Education and Cultural Affairs Amit Deshmukh, has said that he applied for the certificate to the Caste Validity Committee of Mumbai on November 4, 2020 and has not received it. “More than 45 days have passed and I have been going from pillar to post to secure it for my daughter...,” said Salam, requesting the minister to intervene. Congress MLA Amin Patel said he will meet Deshmukh, and, if needed, help the girl petition high court to issue strictures against this apathy.
