Mumbai Police shift Baba Siddique's body to Cooper Hospital for post-mortem

NEW DEHI: Mumbai Police transferred the body of NCP leader Baba Siddique from Lilavati Hospital to Cooper Hospital for a post-mortem examination on Sunday morning.



Siddique, a former Maharashtra minister was shot near Nirmal Nagar in Bandra and died from his injuries at Lilavati Hospital on Saturday night.

Siddique, a three-time MLA from Bandra West, had joined Ajit Pawar's faction of the NCP in February after leaving the Congress. He was shot by unidentified assailants on Saturday evening.

Chief minister Eknath Shinde addressed the incident, saying, "This is an extremely unfortunate incident. I spoke with the doctors and the police.

Two people have been arrested, the accused are from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. The third accused is absconding. We have instructed Mumbai Police to take strict action against those who take law and order into their hands," Shinde stated.

Mumbai Additional CP Paramjit Singh Dahiya provided further details on the arrests. "The incident occurred around 9:30 pm in Nirmal Nagar. Baba Siddique was taken to Lilavati Hospital after being shot. Two suspects have been arrested, and the Mumbai Crime Branch is investigating the case," Dahiya told reporters.

The weapon used in the crime, a 9.9mm pistol, was recovered by the police.

Doctors at Lilavati Hospital reported Siddique suffered two gunshot wounds to his chest and despite emergency treatment, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after being admitted at 9:30 pm on Saturday.

The investigation into the case continues, with one suspect still at large.
