MUMBAI: Mumbaikars welcomed the New Year 2026 on a rainy note as several parts of the financial capital experienced showers on Thursday morning.
Instead of the usual first rays of the year, areas across Mumbai, particularly the island city, were greeted by rainfall. The showers began shortly before 6 am, with some areas seeing heavy rain while others recorded a light drizzle. By around 6.15 am, the intensity of the rain had eased.
Social media users shared their surprise at the unseasonal weather. Rahul Bilve posted on X, "Now who would have thought that it's going to rain on the very first day of 2026." Another user, Muffi Kapadia, wrote, "#MumbaiRains welcoming 2026 with unseasonal showers. Beautiful weather nevertheless."
Residents said the unexpected showers brought a pleasant start to the year, breaking the city’s otherwise humid winter morning.
