Sindoor Bridge

Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the newly constructed Sindoor Bridge in South Mumbai on Thursday, replacing the demolished Carnac Bridge.

2/7

Sindoor symbolises bravery

The new name ‘Sindoor’ was suggested by Speaker Rahul Narwekar, symbolizing the sacrifice and bravery of the Indian armed forces.

3/7

Bridge renamed to mark break from colonial legacy

Fadnavis said the renaming marks a symbolic break from colonial legacies, as the original bridge was named after James Rivett Carnac, British governor of Bombay Presidency (1839–1842).

4/7

Erase ‘black pages of history’

As per the 1902 book History of the Municipal Corporation of the City of Bombay by L.W Michael, the original Carnac Bridge was jointly funded by the Great Indian Peninsula Railway and the municipal corporation.

Carnac Bridge Highlighted Injustices against Indian rulers

Fadnavis cited writings by Prabodhankar Thackeray, claiming Carnac had committed injustices against Indian rulers like Chhatrapati Pratapsingh Maharaj and Mudhoji Raje of Nagpur.

6/7

Celebrating Indian heritage and bravery

Fadnavis said it was time to erase the black pages of colonial history and move towards celebrating Indian heritage and bravery.

7/7

Both Dy CMs skipped the event

Both deputy chief ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar were notably absent from the inauguration ceremony.

I hope the flyover is strong enough to last for 2 years at least. But just to be on safe side kindly place a sign board saying " USE FLYOVER AT YOUR OWN RISK NO CLAIMS WILL BE ENTERTAINED LATER" But the government will give Rs. 2L to the victims if the flyover crashes. So financially we are assured.
