The new line, running between the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) and Aarey, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday.

During the event, Modi took a ride on the metro, interacting with students, beneficiaries of Maharashtra's Ladki Bahin Yojana, and construction workers who played a pivotal role in building the project. He also introduced the MetroConnect3 app to enhance commuters' experience.

The 10-station stretch of the Aqua Line, which spans from BKC to Aarey, includes nine underground stations and was constructed at a cost of ₹14,120 crore. The entire Metro Line 3 project is expected to ease traffic and provide a critical transportation link between Mumbai's city center and suburbs, eventually catering to around 12 lakh daily passengers.

Mumbai Metro Line 3 will run from Navy Nagar in the far-south of Mumbai to Aarey Depot in the north-centre, and will include connections to other metro lines, monorail, suburban rail, inter-city rail, and Mumbai's International Airport

The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for the Thane Integral Ring Metro Rail Project, a ₹12,200 crore initiative that will consist of 22 stations—20 elevated and 2 underground—spanning 29 km.

This project is designed to address the growing transportation demands of Thane, a rapidly expanding industrial and commercial hub in Maharashtra.
